Here at Huntsville Addiction Treatment Center we use all of the latest therapies and technologies. We are constantly going to industry conferences and continuing education seminars. We want to be able to provide you with many different modalities to find what works for you. We know that no two people are the same, and no two recoveries are the same.
One of the treatments we recently started using is called EMDR. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. We have found it to be extremely helpful in helping our patients that are healing from any kind of trauma in their life. It is especially useful for those going through PTSD.
Almost everybody we see in our programs has been through some kind of trauma, whether it be abuse, poverty, or neglect. That’s why we want to tell you about our EDMR treatments. We find EDMR to be very effective for our clients.
There are basically 8 parts to our process here at LATC. We will go over each one, and it is important to remember you can call us to request more information anytime if you have questions. We know it can be a lot to take in.
The therapist cultivates a space where the client can relax. The session aims to look at experiences that happened in the past that may have led to the current problems you are facing. This step involves talking through everything together. The therapist will ask you many questions about your past.
Next, the therapist will work with you to think of solutions to help you stay sober and cope in new ways. Some of these suggestions can be restorative yoga, meditation or breathing exercises when cravings hit.
In this part, we will go deeper into the past and filter out specific memories that might be causing problems for you currently. We will help you understand why you are going through everything you are going through.
The Last Steps The next steps are pretty similar. We will start to have you deal with the things of the past that are influencing you the most. In the first part, we will go slowly. We don’t want it to be too much for you. You will be making movements with the eyes while thinking of the memory.
